Blu-Ray Data Storage Technology

As the technology is being more and more advance and all the records and manuals are now in digital format, the need of data storage is becoming more complex and difficult. There are many different and number of choices for data storage and every method and technology has its own advantage and disadvantage. One of the latest technologies related to data storage is Blu-Ray Data Storage Technology.

Blu-ray is the name used for the new optical disc format that is a better alternate for conventional DVD and VCDs. Its unique format and design is made to enable recording in high definition with the best picture and audio quality. One of the main advantage of this technology is, it provides more space and storage capacity than any other disk, the size is approximately five times the normal DVD size that is about 25GB to 50 GB. You can even rewrite the data and delete the previous. The formats available for Blu-ray are BD-ROM, BD-R and BD-RE. The project for introducing BD/DVD is under process which will provide hybrid format of DVD and Blu-ray on the same disk.

It is a multilayer format disk and we can easily extent its storage capacity by adding more layers, the extended capacity can increase to 100 GB to 200 GB. For a high definition video the timing will be nine hours on 50 GB and for standard format the timing increases to 23 hours. The speed for recording and writing is much faster as BD-ROM movie requires a transfer rate of 54 Mbps.

This technology is best for disk players and personal computers; Blu-ray is not compatible with VCRs. That is why consumers are replacing this old media and converting to HDTV. Thank you to this amazing invention which has greatly enhanced the video and audio experience and presents a nice solution for storage problem.
